Derby woman, 26, killed in crash near 63rd and Broadway was hit by fleeing driver
Authorities say a 26-year-old Derby woman killed Monday in a traffic collision in the area of 63rd South and Broadway was hit by a man in a truck fleeing from another crash.
Anastasia Rooney died at the scene of the fatal wreck, in the 600 block of East 63rd Street South, the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
Lt. Benjamin Blick said the 58-year-old Haysville man driving the Chevrolet Silverado was fleeing from a collision where he had rear-ended a Volkswagen Bug in the 2000 block of East 63rd Street South in the minutes before he drove into Rooney’s car.
When the man was in the 600 block of East 63rd Street South, he “lost control of his vehicle, crossed into the eastbound lanes of 63rd Street and struck a Buick Encore head on,” Blick said in the release.
The fatal crash was reported around 2:30 p.m.
The pair of collisions remained under investigation on Tuesday.
The Haysville man suffered serious injuries that required hospitalization, Blick said. The person driving the Volkswagen Bug involved in the first crash wasn’t hurt.
