Wichita police identify man killed in Saturday crash where driver hit trees
Authorities say 33-year-old Steven Evans of Wichita is the motorist killed Saturday in a traffic crash in the 9600 block of West 37th Street North.
Wichita police said by email that Evans was a passenger in a blue Nissan Altima that drove off 37th Street, between Maize Road and Tyler, and hit several trees in a median around 2:45 a.m. Saturday. The 29-year-old woman driving the car lost control, the email said. She received serious but non-life threatening injuries and was treated at an area hospital over the weekend. Emergency medical services staff tried to save Evans’ life, but he died at the crash site.
Police spokesman Officer Kevin Wheeler said investigators don’t yet know what made the woman lose control of the car.
“That’s under investigation,” he wrote in an email. No other vehicles were involved.
The crash remained under investigation Monday, police said.
