Person in dumpster rescued from trash truck after driver heard cries for help

A person reportedly sleeping in a Wichita dumpster had to be rescued Friday morning after they were dumped into a trash truck collecting refuse on its morning route.

The Wichita Fire Department said on Facebook that crews were called to the 600 block of South West Street, near Kellogg, to help at about 4:30 a.m.

“A person was in a dumpster when it was loaded into the trash truck and became trapped during normal operations,” the fire department’s post said.

“The driver heard the cries for help and called 911.”

Fire crews were able to get the person out by “using a truck company to lift them out of the trash compartment without complicating their injuries,” the fire department said on Facebook.

The person was taken to a Wichita hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
