Man, 24, killed in crash Sunday on Wichita’s south side

Wichita police say a 24-year-old man was killed in a crash early Sunday on Broadway near 31st Street South.

Erik Luna was driving a silver Mitsubishi Eclipse in the 3500 block of South Broadway when he lost control and hit a concrete bridge barrier shortly before 2 a.m. The car overturned, killing Luna and injuring his 20-year-old passenger. Both were trapped inside when police officers arrived.

“Speed and alcohol were both factors” in the wreck, Wichita police spokesman Officer Paul Cruz said Monday.

The passenger remained hospitalized Monday with serious injuries, Cruz said.

The crash is the city’s seventh fatal wreck this year.
