Man killed in motorcycle crash when pickup pulled into intersection, officials say
A motorcylist was killed in a crash in northern Sedgwick County on Tuesday, officials said.
Emergency crews were called to 101st North and Broadway at 1:26 p.m. for a wreck involving a motorcycle, a dispatch supervisor said. One person was taken to a hospital in critical condition.
The 30-year-old Harvey County man later died of his injuries, Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Sgt. Lanon Thompson said. He was identified as Jamison Bonham, of Newton.
A pickup pulling a trailer was eastbound on 101st when the driver pulled into the intersection at Broadway, Thompson said. The northbound motorcycle then collided with the trailer.
There are stop signs for eastbound and westbound traffic on 101st, but not for drivers on Broadway, Thompson said. Investigators have not determined whether the pickup’s driver stopped at the stop sign. The crash remains under investigation.
The roads were shut down in the area of the intersection, the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office said in a tweet. It is northeast of Valley Center.
