Driver of car involved in fatal crash upgraded
The 16-year-old who was driving a car in a fatal crash along McLean in west Wichita on Monday has been upgraded to stable condition.
Wichita police said the boy – who was taken to a local hospital in critical condition after the late-morning crash – was driving a 1995 Honda Prelude northbound on McLean when he lost control of the car and it crashed into a southbound 2000 Ford F-250 pickup.
The driver was ejected from the Honda. The crash happened at about 11:30 a.m.
Sgt. Nikki Woodrow of the Wichita Police Department said speed was a factor in the crash. The crash happened just north of McLean and 15th Street.
A passenger in the Honda died at the scene, though police have not released the name or age of the individual. The 38-year-old man who was driving the pickup was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.
Two passengers in the pickup – a 60-year-old man and a 28-year-old man – suffered non-serious injuries, Woodrow said. The investigation into what caused the crash is ongoing, Woodrow added.
