Sedgwick County remains at low COVID-19 community level. Here’s the latest data

The COVID-19 positive test rate in Sedgwick County remains below 10% as of Jan. 5.

Data from the Sedgwick County Health Department show the test rate at about 9.7%, which is 0.4% higher than last week. The rate accounts for recorded positives over the total number administered and does not include at-home tests and those not reported to the county.

The county reported 12 new positives Thursday, 40 Wednesday and 52 Tuesday, which was the highest reported in a single day last week.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports the community level of COVID-19 as low as of Thursday in the county.

The CDC updates the metric each Thursday for U.S. counties and bases the assessment on the number of new cases and hospitalizations per 100,000 people (seven-day totals) and the percent of staffed hospital beds occupied by COVID-positive patients (a seven-day average).

In communities at high level, the CDC recommends wearing a mask in public, indoor spaces.

Preventing the spread of COVID-19

It’s important to get tested if you are exposed to someone with COVID-19 or start to show symptoms. The best way to prevent illness is to wash your hands, keep distance when you can, keep up-to-date with your vaccine and wear a mask when necessary.

The most recent county data from Dec. 17 show 55.5% of eligible Sedgwick County residents are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. You can find more information about vaccines online.
