Sedgwick County opens new COVID-19 testing site, expands hours at Harry location
If you’d like to get tested for COVID-19, you now have more options and time to do so.
The Sedgwick County Health Department has opened a new testing site and expanded the hours at a current site, a press release said.
The county opened a new drive-thru site at 777 E. Waterman St. in the downtown Wichita Transit building.
It is supported by one of two Kansas National Guard teams that were assigned to the county for testing support through Feb. 9.
Drive-thru testing hours will be Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 2:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The county says an appointment is not needed.
“This drive-thru site with evening and Saturday hours will help meet overwhelming demand for COVID-19 testing, especially as Sedgwick County cases are spiking due to Omicron,” said Adrienne Byrne, Sedgwick County Health director.
The county testing site at 4115 E. Harry St. expanded its hours Sunday, the release says.
The new additional hours are Sundays from noon to 5 p.m. The second National Guard team assigned to the county is supporting this site, the county says.
Only self-collected saliva sampling is offered at the drive-thru test site and on Sundays at the east Harry location, the release reads. The county says you must register with WSU’s Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory (MDL) before arriving.
People are encouraged not to eat, drink, smoke or chew anything for 30 minutes before testing. Children under 5 should not be tested, the county said.
