Six Wichita ZIP codes have at least 100 cases of COVID-19. Is yours one?

Six ZIP codes in Wichita have at least 100 confirmed cases of COVID-19.

A map from the Sedgwick County Health Department breaks down coronavirus testing and positive COVID-19 cases by ZIP code. The online ZIP code map’s data is updated on Mondays. It can be accessed online at www.sedgwickcounty.org/covid-19/.

On Monday, the Sedgwick County Health Department reported 2,156 cases total cases since the start of the pandemic. There were 559 new cases since last Monday, which was a 35% increase in the cumulative case count.

While there were more new cases reported over the past week than the previous week, the previous week’s percentage change was higher. The 436 new cases between June 29 and July 6 was a 37.6% increase.

There were 11 ZIP codes with larger percent increases than the county as a whole between July 6 and Monday.

The biggest percent change was the Goddard area ZIP code of 67052, which more than doubled its cases in one week. The 17 cases there was an increase of nine cases, or 112.5%.

The Valley Center area ZIP code of 167147 and the Wichita ZIP codes of 67205, 67207, 67209, 67211, 67212, 67213, 67214, 67215 and 67230 all had percent changes higher than the county.

The ZIP code with the biggest increase in actual cases was 67203, which added 40 new cases. The area has the most confirmed cases of any ZIP code in the county at 158. It also had the most cases last week. The ZIP code includes the Riverside area and parts of Delano, as well as areas farther north and west. It is generally bounded by Douglas, Main, 21st Street and West Street.

Five other ZIP codes have at least 100 cases: 67204 in north Wichita, 67207 and 67218 in the southeast area of the city, 67212 in west Wichita and 67216 on the south side.

A full list of ZIP codes in Sedgwick County is available below, including the population, number of tests administered, confirmed cases and testing rate per 10,000 people. The county’s online map does not list the actual change or the percentage change in cases over time. The Eagle calculated the values using the number of cases listed in county data on Monday and July 6.

Testing rates based on 20 or fewer tests are considered unreliable by the county health department. For total tests and total confirmed cases, if a ZIP code has five or fewer of either category, the county does not report the exact number. No exact percent change or actual case change could be calculated in those instances.

Two ZIP codes — for McConnell Air Force Base and Wichita State University — do not have data because they have no population.

Many of the ZIP code areas in Sedgwick County extend into neighboring counties. The ZIP code population data on the map includes people who live in other counties, but the number of tests and cases only include Sedgwick County residents. The testing rate includes Sedgwick County residents who were tested compared to the total population of the ZIP code, including other counties.

Names of towns from other counties are included solely as a reference for the relative location of the ZIP code.
