Coronavirus updates: Sedgwick County’s active cases and positive test percentage increase
The number of active cases of COVID-19 continues to increase in Sedgwick County.
The Sedgwick County Health Department’s online coronavirus dashboard listed 689 total cases, 465 recoveries, 22 deaths and 204 active cases as of Tuesday afternoon. Those numbers mean there were 29 new cases, nine more recoveries, no new deaths and 22 new active cases since Monday’s report.
There have been 18,274 tests administered, which is an increase of 277.
The rolling 14-day average percentage of tests that are positive is also increasing. It was listed at about 2.79% on Tuesday, up from less than 1% two weeks ago.
The data shows an increase in active cases as well as an increase in the percentage of tests that come back positive in the two weeks since the phased-in reopening approach was dropped. Active cases and the percentage of positive tests had been on the decline for most of May.
It was previously reported that Sedgwick County would no longer release daily update reports and was transitioning to reports on Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays. A county spokesperson on Tuesday clarified written reports will no longer be released daily while the online dashboard will continue to be updated daily.

Lansing prison outbreak contained
The Kansas Department of Health and Environment has declared the Lansing Correctional Facility to be contained.
Kansas Department of Corrections officials said in a news release that the cluster at the prison near Kansas City — the source of the largest single outbreak of COVID-19 in the state — has been contained.
“With the virus contained, residents, staff and contractors at the facility are moving forward with the resumption of many activities,” the KDOC said in a statement. “This includes residents returning to their jobs in food service, laundry and maintenance activities as well as essential private industry jobs. In addition, the contracted medical provider will continue providing all services under the terms of their contract. Activities that expose residents to the community, including visitation, volunteers, mentors, and non-essential private industry jobs will not be resumed at this time.”
