Second nursing home and third business coronavirus clusters identified in Sedgwick County

Public health officials have identified two new coronavirus clusters in Sedgwick County — a second cluster at a long-term care facility and a third outbreak at a business.

The Sedgwick County Health Department’s COVID-19 dashboard shows two clusters have now been identified in long-term care facilities, three at businesses and three at religious institutions. In a news release, county officials said the new nursing home cluster is connected to 13 cases, and the new business outbreak has fewer than five cases.

County officials have not named either location, adding that investigators believe the clusters are contained and there is no risk to the general public. All residents of the long-term care facility with the new cluster are being tested.

County health officials have previously confirmed an outbreak at the Clearwater Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Of the 53 residents, 43 have been infected with the virus and three have died. Nine staff members have tested positive. An outbreak has also been identified at the Mel Hambelton Ford car dealership in Wichita.

Kansas Department of Health and Environment numbers show 339 cases of COVID-19 in Sedgwick County and 3,328 in the state.
