Coronavirus updates: Kansas adds 118 new cases with four in Sedgwick County
State public health officials reported 118 new cases of COVID-19 in Kansas and four more patients in Sedgwick County on Sunday.
The Kansas Department of Health and Environment’s daily coronavirus pandemic update listed 3,174 cases in the state and 338 in Sedgwick County. One more person died, bringing the death count to 118.
On Saturday, the KDHE reported 3,056 cases in Kansas, 334 in Sedgwick County and 117 deaths statewide.
Sunday’s jump was the fewest new cases in a day since Tuesday. It also marked the second day in a row where the number of new cases was smaller than the day before.
Health officials reported 23,063 negative tests and at least 485 hospitalizations, though hospitalization data is incomplete. Patients in Kansas range in age from infant to 99 years old with an average age of 48 and a median of 47.
In cases where racial information is available, about 78% are white, about 15% are black, about 3% are Asian and about 4% are other races. In cases where ethnicity information is available, about 40% are Hispanic or Latino.
The Sedgwick County Health Department reported 336 local patients on Sunday. Six have died, 73 have been hospitalized and 169 have recovered. Epidemiologists have determined about 54% of patients had close contact with another confirmed case, about 24% were likely exposed through community spread, about 11% of cases are travel-related and about 10% are under investigation.
The KDHE reports Sedgwick County has had 338 people test positive and 3,422 tests have been administered. The testing rate is 6.63 people per 1,000 population. Of the nine counties with at least 100 cases, Sedgwick County has the lowest testing rate.
In the Wichita area, Reno County has 23 cases, Butler County has 13, Harvey County has five, Sumner County has three, Cowley County has two and Kingman County has zero.
In the Kansas City area, Wyandotte County has 565 cases — the most in the state. Johnson County has 430 and Leavenworth County has 172.
Other Kansas counties with at least 100 confirmed cases are Ford County (home to Dodge City) with 459, Seward County (home to Liberal) with 336, Lyon County (home to Emporia) with 146, Finney County (home to Garden City) with 140 and Shawnee County (home to Topeka) with 101.
