“Surrey, old girl” has been found.
The affectionately named four-wheeled bike that Joe and Sheila Tigert share with Wichita City Council member Pete Meitzner and his wife, Suzi, was stolen from where they left it chained near Mort’s Martini and Cigar Bar in Old Town last month.
A tipster called Mort’s general manager Emma Russell late last week and told her where she might find the bike in a neighborhood not far from there.
“Emma got in the car and drove right over,” Pete Meitzner says.

Russell saw the bike in an alley, partly covered under a canopy. She called a police officer she knows from the Old Town area then stayed with the bike until he arrived.
“She’s something else,” Meitzner says. “She’s a friend for life.”
Sheila Tigert says there was “lots of screaming. We were all very excited.”
“It’s just got a little spirit about it,” she says of the bike, “so we needed it back.”
Tigert says they now have a “brand new, heavy duty, major lock.”
Though he’s happy to have the bike back, Meitzner also is pleased as a City Council member.
“It’s good that citizens are taking note if they see something … and the police are reacting,” he says. “It’s good stuff.”
