There’s going to be some construction at Nifty Nut House. Here’s what it’s for.
If Steve Jahn always seems to have something in the works at his Nifty Nut House, you’re right.
Even with a major expansion to a new building on his property near Central and St. Francis in 2018, he’s always thinking of how he can make operations better, which is why he now has another new building in the works.
This one will be for some important back-end operations that should make the popular candy-and-nut store run more smoothly and grow, too.
“I’ve been trying to figure this out for years,” Jahn said.
To do what he needs to do, Jahn recently applied for planned unit development zoning, which he received.
As part of that, before Jahn can tear down an existing warehouse and build a new one attached to his store, he has to make improvements to some ancillary parking he has along East Central.
That includes paving the gravel lot there and adding landscaping, which Jahn said he doesn’t mind.
“That was always our plan,” he said.
“We want to look good, too. . . . We’ll make it pretty.”
Then, when the new warehouse is built, Jahn said, it will tie into the north side of the store.
Jahn said the 11,000-square foot building will be tall and have a dock to handle freight.
There will be a bagging station there as well.
“It’ll just be a lot easier to feed this store,” Jahn said.
It’ll also free up the existing bagging area in another building on the property, which Jahn wants to use as a staging area for holiday gift box orders.
He said it’ll be great to finally get everything done.
“I’ve had all these ideas for so long,” Jahn said.
“We’ve been trying to grow forever, and we’ve finally got a direction.”
