Business now under one roof: ‘It made my heart so happy to give them this space’
Kelcy’s Dance Studio continues to grow, this time under one roof.
Kelcy Mohr, who started the studio in her home 16 years ago, first expanded to commercial space in 2014 at Carriage Parkway.
Then, in 2019, she opened her second studio at the Art Park, on 29th Street between Woodlawn and Rock Road.
Now, she’s let the Carriage Park space go and is opening new space at the Art Park on Monday just above her existing studio there for a total of more than 10,000 square feet over six studios.
“I just think it’s going to give much more of a family feel,” Mohr said of being at the Art Park instead of a shopping center.
She said there are “just lots of new opportunities here. It’s just a really cute little complex.”
For instance, on Thursday, Mohr said dancers were sitting out in the sunshine by a koi pond having a picnic.
“Everyone seems to be thrilled,” she said. “There’s so much beautiful space here. . . . It made my heart so happy to give them this space.”
There’s a dancers’ lounge and a dance teachers’ lounge with the new space.
Mohr said even though the two spaces had been only seven minutes apart, she said families who had children on different teams had to drive back and forth a lot, and now they won’t have to.
She said having everything in one place offers a more cohesive experience, particularly with young dancers who can pop into other studios and watch the more-advanced dancers.
“We’re all here together to be able to . . . share our passion for dance.”
