‘Golden Bachelorette’ No. 3: Boring, boring . . . wait! Drama!
Playing kickball, riding horses, going on and on about past loves. Is there anything people would like to see a bunch of 60-something-year-olds do less?
Maybe watching paint dry, but that’s probably about it.
The third episode of “The Golden Bachelorette” Wednesday night was pretty darn dull.
The show started with a teary Bachelorette, Joan Vassos, talking about her late husband, John, which turned out to be a breakdown she actually had later in the show.
Then there were a lot of tiresome moments — seriously, who wants to watch anyone play kickball? — followed by some cringey ones. That included one dude trying to convince the other bachelors to sing a cheesy song to Vassos, only getting one taker.
Hometown Wichita bachelor Chock Chapple had to watch others go on one-on-one dates, which he admitted was tough, though he had his chance last week with much success.
He was pretty good at comforting Vassos after her mini breakdown, though.
“Chuck’s a fixer,” Vassos said. Then she noted her late husband was, too.
During the rose ceremony, when men who aren’t presented with one are sent home, producers tried to build up Chapple’s fear of not making the cut despite feeling strongly “that Joan and I have bonded.”
He said he was on pins and needles.
“It is absolutely driving me crazy.”
Chapple made it through, and that seemed to be that for the tedious two hours.
Then, though, came the previews for next week.
Something happens with Chapple. He appears to say goodbye. Drama ensues. A car takes off.
Could it be?
Everyone likes a good cliffhanger, but the smart money is this is some kind of editing trick.
We’ll have to wait a week to see.
