An all-inclusive luxury vacation? Sounds nice, but this one isn’t for you

When you think about an all-inclusive vacation with luxury suites, you’re probably normally thinking about one for yourself.

The new Camp Bow Wow Goddard, however, is just for dogs.

“Camp Bow Wow’s a premier doggy day care boarding facility,” said Michael Schroeder, who is opening the business with his wife, Jennifer.

Schroeder said they’ll offer “all-inclusive care for pups” who visit for the day, spend the night or hang out for a while.

“When you come for boarding, everything’s included in that boarding price,” he said.

That includes medication, feedings and general care.

The standard boarding rate is $48 a night, but customers can upgrade to luxury suites for their dogs for $75 a night. The suites includes 24-7 cameras and TVs that play shows or music.

There are special rates for multiple dogs.

Camp Bow Wow also will offer basic grooming for any dog, including ones who aren’t boarded.

Schroeder said the Colorado-based franchise has more than 200 sites in 42 states and Canada.

“It’s been a two-year journey,” he said of getting open. “It’s just a lot of steps involved, I guess, in doing things the right way,”

The Schroeders built a new, more than 8,000-square-foot building at 20100 W. Kellogg in Goddard.

“It’s a growing community,” Michael Schroeder said.

He said he and his wife liked the mentality of the Goddard City Council in wanting to grow the area.

“It’s a cheaper market to get into for us,” he said. “But there’s also not a lot of facilities like this.”

The business, which opens Friday, will be open 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday. On Sundays and holidays, it will be open from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. for boarding pickups and drop-offs only. Schroeder said that’s so customers returning from out of town on those days won’t have to be charged for an extra night.

Michael Schroeder is a crop adjuster and will continue that career. Jennifer Schroeder was an extension agent and a school teacher but now will manage Camp Bow Wow full time.

The two also own Smoots Creek Kennels near their home between Kingman and Cheney, where they breed golden retrievers and golden doodles.

Michael Schroeder said there could be more Camp Bow Wows in the Wichita area in the future.

“That’s the goal,” he said. “To continue to build on what we have.”
