It’s a little later than the end of 2022 as planned, but Wichita’s fourth Chick N Max opened Monday in the Westlink Shopping Center at Central and Tyler where Pizza Hut once was and the short-lived T’Geaux Cajun was most recently.

Longtime Wichita restaurateur Rusty Rathbun, who brought the Subway chain to Wichita in 1987, opened the Westlink Chick N Max as the chain’s first franchisee. He plans two more Chick N Max sites in Kansas in the next few years.

“I’ve been an admirer of the Chick N Max brand and exceptional guest experience for many years, and I’m excited to bring the award-winning concept to even more guests across Kansas,” Rathbun said in an e-mailed news release.

Max Sheets, who founded the chain in 2017, has franchise development deals to open 53 restaurants in Kansas, Texas and South Dakota.

“We couldn’t be prouder to not only continue the expansion of our local footprint, but also open our very first franchisee-owned restaurant right here in our own backyard,” Sheets said in the release. “This is just the beginning. We look forward to growing our reach and to introducing millions of more customers across the country to our legendary sandwiches, crispy tenders, smoked wings, and more.”
