A new option for groceries is coming to Delano

Though it’s not a full grocery, the Delano area soon will have a new option for some grocery items along with other merchandise.

DoorDash, a San Francisco-based delivery service, is opening one of its DashMarts at 239 N. Handley by the end of this year.

That’s a concept the company introduced last year to offer fresh and frozen groceries, snacks, household items, restaurant food, pet food and some local products as well. However, it’s not a store where customers drop in.

Customers have to place orders on the DoorDash website or app for delivery.

For a monthly charge of $9.99, there is a DashPass membership program that offers free deliveries with the purchase of more than $12. The program offers a reduction in service fees as well.

Via e-mail, the company touted its “ability to leverage our vast merchant selection along with our leading logistic technology to offer an unparalleled assortment of restaurant products and convenience items available on demand.”

A company spokeswoman, who prefers not to be named, said DashMart will give Wichita merchants a new outlet for their products.

DashMarts typically have about 2,000 items available.

“For customers, DashMart is connecting them to the best in their cities and offering a new avenue for people to discover their favorite restaurant brands online while stocking up on everyday essentials,” the spokeswoman said in the e-mail.

The concept is similar to the Philadelphia-based Gopuff online retailer, which now has three Wichita product fulfillment centers.

Ryan Hubbard of NAI Martens handled the DashMart deal.
