Mum’s the word from World Market, but the store is reopening

There’s good news for eager shoppers who have been wondering when Cost Plus World Market will reopen at Greenwich Place.

The store closed this spring when the coronavirus hit Wichita.

As other businesses reopened, the door to World Market began to get papered with notices from mail carriers that have gone unanswered. It caused some to worry the store is closing for good. However, that’s not the case.

Management for Greenwich Place, the large development at K-96 and Greenwich, said World Market will be open by the end of the week at the latest. Employees are in the store now.

No one with the California-based company is talking. In fact, no one is answering the corporate line or the Wichita store’s phone.

A woman who answered a separate customer service line said she could not get a message to the corporate office.

In a mid-afternoon Tuesday Facebook post, though, World Market said: “Welcome back! We are excited to announce that we are open for in-store shopping at most of our nation-wide locations.”

While some stores are already reopening, a link to specific stores shows that Wichita’s World Market won’t open until 11 a.m. on Thursday. Hours will be 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

Also at Greenwich Place, it looks like REI will debut sometime in September. Look for more details on the new store, which was supposed to open this spring, at that time.
