Farris Wheel to reopen at Cambridge Market with new owner and new space
Candy lovers have a reason to celebrate.
The Farris Wheel is going to remain open after all.
In March, Have You Heard? reported that the Cambridge Market business was closing after 14 years in business.
When longtime Farris Wheel fan Gerika Matthews heard the news, she took it as a sign.
“My ears kind of perked up, and I was like, wow, this is calling my name — if I don’t eat all my own profits,” she said. “I have a very bad sweet tooth.”
Matthews said she likes the variety of candy the Farris Wheel has.
“It’s just an old-fashioned, wonderful, happy place to shop.”
Matthews is moving the shop within Cambridge Market, which is at the southeast corner of 21st and Webb Road.
The store will now be next to Ann’s Fashions in part of the former Tad’s Locker Room space. At not quite 2,000 square feet, it’s smaller than the store’s previous space.
Matthews said the smaller space will make it easier to see more candy at once since it won’t be so spread out.
Other than that, she doesn’t plan any changes.
“If it’s not broken, I’m a firm believer: Don’t try to fix it.”
She plans a soft opening at the beginning of July. First, Matthews is focused on getting married in June. She said there are a lot of details to tend to for both big life events.
“It’s nonstop.”
Matthews said she likes that the Farris Wheel has nothing but candy, unlike other stores where people are stopping in for items such as toilet paper.
“This is just happy candy.”
