Former Eric Fisher Salon stylist Justin Gilman was looking to rent a booth this fall but wound up opening his own salon instead.

On Oct. 3, he started talking to Leslie Way, owner of Salon Teased at 916 E. Douglas, which is just a few doors down from Larkspur in Old Town.

“My head started spinning a little bit . . . with ideas,” Gilman says.

By Oct. 31, he’d closed on the business.

Now, Gilman is going through what he calls a slow rebranding process.

The business is Salon Teased by J. Gilman Salon. Eventually, it will be known simply as J. Gilman Salon.

Gilman says he’s been hiring more stylists.

In addition to offering hair services, he says there is waxing and sugaring, manicures and pedicures and a room for an aesthetician, who he is looking to hire. That person eventually will offer makeup applications as well.

Owning his own salon “was definitely something I thought about,” Gilman says.

“I just like the downtown area anyway.”

With so much going on, he says, “I just felt like it was a really good time to move down here.”
