There’s slightly disappointing news for everyone who is eagerly awaiting the return of Church’s Chicken to the market, but there’s no need to get too upset.

The first of several Church’s restaurants that Mike Jizzini plans in Wichita is not going to open next week at 13th and Oliver as planned, but it still will open this month.

“I want to update you that we are encountering some challenges to have the opening on time,” Jizzini wrote in an e-mail.

“The city cannot confirm the completion of the Utility (waste/sewer) service.”

Jizzini said there was a scheduling delay for the sewer line for the property.

He now anticipates an Oct. 28 opening.

Look for more information closer to the opening.

A day before its grand opening, about 60 people had set up tents in the parking lot of the new Chick-fil-A at Ridge and Taft in west Wichita. The first 100 people in line when the store opens on Thursday, get free meals once a week for a year.
