A nearly 9 percent raise will push Spirit AeroSystems CEO Tom Gentile’s base salary to $1.25 million a year.

That’s according to a Securities and Exchange Commission filing made public on Monday.

The chief executive of the company that employs 11,000 people in Wichita also will see a 50 percent increase in an annual stock award under Spirit’s Long Term Incentive Plan.

The award is valued at 500 percent of his base salary, up from 450 percent last year, according to the filing.

Based on the increased salary, that award would be valued at $6.25 million in Spirit stock, according to the filing.

Gentile, a former GE executive, started at Spirit in April 2016 as executive vice president and chief operating officer. Less than three months later, Spirit announced president and CEO Larry Lawson’s retirement effective July 31, 2016, and named Gentile his successor.

Under Gentile’s leadership, the company successfully negotiated a new pricing agreement with its biggest customer, Boeing. Gentile also announced plans to expand the company’s parts fabrication work as well as defense projects. More recently, the company announced a major expansion to its south Oliver plant that would include the addition of 1,000 new jobs in Wichita.
