Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers will unveil a plaque this week to mark its first restaurant location, according to a news release.

The unveiling will take place at 9 a.m. on Tuesday at the Freddy’s location near 21st Street and Tyler Road in northwest Wichita, which opened in August 2002 as the franchise’s first restaurant.

The event is taking place in conjunction with next week’s planned opening of the company’s 200th restaurant in Omaha, Neb. The franchise is now found in a total of 30 U.S. states. The Wichita-based company has opened 23 restaurants so far this year and plans to open more than 30 more by year’s end and another 70 in 2017, according to the release.

In the coming years, Freddy’s could eventually have more than 600 restaurants open in the U.S., based on development rights already in place, the release said.
