Wichita-area Applebee’s and Pie Five Pizza will be offering free meals to active military personnel and military veterans on Veterans Day, Nov. 11.

The free meals at Applebee’s will be limited to a special menu comprising seven dishes, such as a 7-ounce steak or chicken tenders, according to a new release from Applebee’s franchisee JS Ventures.

The Pie Five locations at 334 S. Ridge and 2755 N. Maize will offer a free pie to active duty military and veterans, said Martha Baker of JS Ventures, which is the city’s Pie Five franchisee.

Proof of active duty or past service — such as a photo ID or military discharge form — is required for the free meals.

The Applebee’s free-meal program is a national program, Baker said.

Applebee’s also is encouraging customers to participate in its Thank You Movement, which allows people to post thank you notes to veterans and active duty military on a website it created, Visitors are also encouraged to submit stories of veterans and active duty personnel who are in need of household items or medical equipment. Applebee’s said it will fulfill some of those needs identified through stories submitted.
