Update: Ramp from I-135 to K-96 to reopen Sunday evening
Sunday afternoon update:
The ramp from Interstate 135 south to K-96 east in Wichita will reopen at 6 p.m. on Sunday after workers finished ramp repairs, Kansas Department of Transportation spokesperson Tracy Statton said.
Previous story:
The ramp from I-135 south to K-96 east in Wichita was closed Saturday afternoon after workers found a “piece of concrete broke” off from the bridge, according to Kansas Department of Transportation spokesperson Tracy Statton.
She said it happened under the bridge and is thought to have been caused by the saturated ground that also closed the ramp Jan. 11-12.
“It’s a similar problem,” she said, adding that recent construction work on the ramp wasn’t a factor.
The concrete couldn’t be patched Saturday because it’s too cold, she said. It could be fixed Sunday if weather permits. KDOT will announce when the ramp is open again.
Sunday has a forecast high of 36 degrees, about 13 degrees higher than Saturday.
Statton was notified about the closure around 3 p.m. Saturday. KDOT sent a news release about 90 minutes later.
