Summer at Botanica means the opening of the butterfly house this Sunday with special winged activities, and Tuesdays on the Terrace concerts starting up. Drop-in activities in the Downing Children’s Garden also are now being offered daily through July.

At the opening of the butterfly house, during an event Sunday called Take Flight, children will be able to make a butterfly feeder and paper airplanes and gliders and launch them, have their faces painted, and go on a butterfly scavenger hunt. The first 100 children will get to release a butterfly in the butterfly house, which features new signs this summer.

The event, from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, also will feature a bubble area, a photo area, balloon artists, games and a bee man. DJ Ronnie Choy will play tunes, and the grill will be fired up, with lunch and other refreshments for sale.

Admission to Take Flight is $3 with a Riverfest button and for members, $8 otherwise.

Tuesdays on the Terrace will begin this Tuesday, and at a later hour this year – 6 to 8 p.m. Each Tuesday, on the terrace, live music will be performed, and drinks and dinner will be for sale. Botanica’s 18 acres of gardens also will be open for strolling. Tickets are $10, $5 for members, and dinner is $7. Annie Up will perform this Tuesday.

Also during June and July at Botanica, different drop-in activities will be offered every day but Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Downing Children’s Garden.

On Father’s Day, June 19, dads will get in free.
