Bask in fall color at Bartlett Arboretum’s TreeFest
Experts will be on the ground and in the branches Sunday afternoon for the new TreeFest at Bartlett Arboretum in Belle Plaine.
People can glory in the fall color, learn about trees, buy trees, watch aerial rescue and arborist demonstrations, tour the arboretum, and hear music from the arboretum’s steward, Robin Macy, and her husband, Kentucky White. Luciano’s food truck, Strada, will be serving from 1 to 5 p.m.
Gates will open at noon, and the cost is $5.
Here’s the schedule:
▪ 12:30 p.m.: tour of the arboretum led by Macy.
▪ 1:30 p.m.: reforesting Wichita, by Barney Barnhard of ICTrees
▪ 2: p.m.: fertilizing trees and iron chlorosis treatment, by retired extension agent Bob Neier
▪ 3 p.m.: best trees for the Kansas landscape, including a walk on the grounds, by community forester Tim McDonnell and Jason Griffin, director of K-State’s John C. Pair Horticulture Center in Haysville
▪ 4 p.m.: Tree Tunes, a short concert in the depot by Macy and White
▪ 4:30 p.m.: tree-planting demonstration.
Hillside Nursery will have hardy Kansas trees for sale, and arborists from Ernstmann Tree Care will be in the tall trees demonstrating aerial rescue and pruning techniques throughout the afternoon.
