Meet Empress Wu

I bought a start of the hosta Empress Wu a few years ago after I’d heard about it at the American Hosta Association convention in 2008, the year of its introduction. It was hyped to be the largest hosta on the planet, so of course I had to have it. I had my daughter take this picture of me with my Empress Wu to send to my fellow hostaholics as a nod to the famous picture of its breeder standing next to his prize Empress Wu. I decided to kneel rather than stand. I like to think that for a hosta that grew up here in droughty, hot Kansas, my old girl looks pretty good.
