Designers get first look at showhouse

Designers angling to put their stamp on the 2015 Symphony Showhouse got to tour the house at 320 N. Belmont this week. The designers are submitting proposals for the rooms they want to work on in the circa-1920s manor house. You can get your first look inside, too, with this video from the event.

After the house is redecorated, it will be open for tours from May 1 to 16 as a benefit for the Women’s Association of the Wichita Symphony.

Crafts fair in Halstead

Halstead will have its Fine Arts and Crafts Festival from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 18 on Main Street. It will be outdoors rain or shine and feature all handmade items including art, crafts, pottery and woodworking. There will be live music, food vendors, a textile show featuring Quilts of Valor, a kids zone where children can take part in activities while their parents visit the exhibits, and a statewide competition for high-school art students.

Halstead is eight miles west of Newton, about 30 to 40 minutes northwest of Wichita.
