Project Beauty announces beautification awards

Project Beauty has announced its 2014 awards to homeowners who have particularly beautiful landscapes.

The beautification awards go to Bill and Judi Wynne, 934 N. Crestway (look for them on Sept. 20 on the Wichita Area Garden Railway Tour); Sharon and Bill Quincy, 1420 N. Garland (cottage-like); Wilma Leahy, 2144 N. Byron Road (including an area of no lawn by the street that has yucca, cactus and gravel); Sara Loder, 1921 W. 12th St. (a no-lawn front yard using gravel, trees, shrubs, grasses and spring-flowering bulbs); Karen Sanders-West, 12122 W. Autumn Ridge Court (a certified wildlife garden that has birds, butterflies, ducks and wild turkeys); Bernit and Jerry Jones, 12206 W. Autumn Ridge, (a three-season garden); and Lucrecia and Jerry Smith, 6502 W. Clearmeadow (a well-manicured yard that backs up to a pond, including yard art and ground cover).

The group also gave an Honorary Beautification Award to Wichita Eagle reporter and columnist Annie Calovich for her reporting on the homes and gardens in Wichita. Calovich’s column and stories on those topics run on Saturdays in the newspaper.
