How to build a better lawn

Between drought, flood and the threat of fines for using too much water, it’s no wonder some people are questioning what type of grass – if any – they should have in their yard in the Wichita area.

If it helps take the pressure off, know that there is no ideal answer.

“None of the grasses is perfect, and none is stupendous year-round, because none is perfectly adapted” to our climate, extension agent Rebecca McMahon said recently in a class at the Extension Center about lawns.

Fall is the best time of year to reseed, overseed and fertilize fescue lawns. As you assess the state of your grass this month, ask yourself some questions about how much you want to spend, time- and money-wise, on grass.
