Two Wichita houses designed by William Sternberg that are on the National Register of Historic Places will be open for tours next weekend.
The Aley House at 1505 N. Fairview and the Sternberg House at 1065 N. Waco —both in the Queen Anne style — were last on tours in 2008, but both have been updated since then, says Christine Schneider, owner of the Aley House.
Sternberg was a contractor and builder who came to Wichita from New York state in 1877. The Sternberg House was built in 1886, the Aley in 1889.
The tour will include old-time music, food and lemonade and information about historic building techniques, Schneider said. Tickets, which cover entrance to both houses, are $10 for adults and $8 for people 65 and older and 18 and younger. The tickets will be available at the door. Hours will be 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 17 and noon to 5 p.m. July 18. Part of the proceeds will go to Old Cowtown Museum, Schneider said.
