Winners of The Eagle’s Father’s Day look-alike contest

Joseph Thom, 16, and Mike Thom, 54, of Bel Aire:
What else they have in common: We share a love of Kansas State University football and Wichita State University basketball. We like to go camping and spent many a camp out at the Father-With-Son camp outs at Camp Kanza and Camp Brown. Joseph is Boy Scout, and I was his assistant leader through his time of being a Cub Scout. Joseph is nearing the completion of his requirements to be an Eagle Scout.

Those eyes. That chin. They’re just two of the similar features the winners of our Father’s Day contest, Mike Thom and Joseph Thom of Bel Aire, share.

Mike, 54, says that if people didn’t know he had a son, they’d know it just by meeting Joseph.

“We walk the same and talk the same. He has a lot better GPA than I ever had though,” he says. The two also share a love of sports and “neither of us like to do the dishes or mow the lawn.”

Father and son are often told they look alike, but Joseph, 16, doesn’t see the facial similarities.

“I don’t think we look alike at all,” he says, though he takes the remarks as a compliment.

This Father’s Day the family doesn’t have definitive plans, but the day will involve spending time together and perhaps a barbecue, says Mike. “We’ll just be thankful we have a good family.”

The Thoms will receive a $100 gift card. Here are the winners and some other top vote-getters from our judges. Find more at kansas.com/living.
