The spot at 5231 E. Central that Angelo’s occupied when it first reopened in 2016 is getting a new tenant.

A new grab-and-go sushi restaurant called Tokizo is taking over the space and should be open by January or February, said owner Emiko Togashi. She’s unsure of the exact timeline, she said, because she still needs to do some renovations.

Togashi, who was born in Tokyo and grew up in Hiroshima, said that she worked as a manager of restaurants in Indiana and Wisconsin earlier in her life and has been dreaming about owning her own place for a decade.

Her restaurant, which she’s naming after her grandfather’s brother, is taking over suite A of the Central Plaza strip center. The new restaurant will be on the west end of the center and will be using only half of the space Angelo’s had when it operated there before moving to 5900 E. Central in 2021.

Suite A doesn’t have customer restrooms, so Togashi decided she’d operate it as a grab-and-go restaurant: It won’t have customer seating, but people will be able to stop in and grab sushi rolls, several different kinds of sushi, onigiri rice balls, and other Japanese dishes such as udon noodles.

Though she hasn’t settled on her hours yet, Togashi said she’ll likely open the restaurant for lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., close for a break, then reopen for dinner from 4 to 7 p.m.

She has experience preparing sushi and will be the one in the kitchen at her new restaurant, she said.

Charlie King of Occidental Management handled the deal.
