The first Wichita location of this breakfast chain has quietly opened
It didn’t open in October, as the company originally projected.
But Wichita’s first location of The Big Biscuit is now open at 2330 N. Maize Road.
Though the restaurant is open to the public as of Friday, a spokesperson for the Kansas City-based chain said that its grand opening is set for this coming Wednesday, Dec. 17. To celebrate, it will award the first 50 people through the doors on Wednesday a $15 gift card good for their next visit.
It will also operate a giveaway tent from 8 to 10 a.m., and people who follow The Big Biscuit on social media will be invited to play Plinko to win prizes. A ribbon-cutting ceremony with free coffee and treats for attendees is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
The new Wichita restaurant is the chain’s 30th. It will also be the first of four restaurants The Big Biscuit will open in the Wichita area in the coming years.
The second should open in early 2026 at 106 S. Hydraulic, where Jimmy’s Egg previously operated. Over the next year and a half, The Big Biscuit will also open restaurants in another former Jimmy’s Egg space at 7777 E. 21st St. and in a former IHOP building at 1906 N. Rock Road in Derby.
The Maize Road restaurant is in a strip center just north of the 21st and Maize Dillons. It’s taking over a space most recently occupied by Las Catrinas Mexican restaurant, which closed in December 2023.
The Big Biscuit, which also has restaurants in Missouri, Oklahoma and Arkansas, serves a big menu of breakfast dishes including biscuits and gravy, omelets, pancakes, Benedicts, waffles, french toast and breakfast sandwiches. It also serves lunch items like salads, burgers, sandwiches and fried chicken strips.
Restaurateur Dan Gerson opened the first Big Biscuit in Independence, Missouri, in 2000. Five years later, he added a second in Blue Springs, Missouri.
Father and son David Offerdahl and Chad Offerdahl soon discovered the restaurant and bought the concept from Gerson, though he kept his original restaurants in Independence and Blue Springs. After Gerson died unexpectedly in September 2023, the Offerdahls bought those as well.
Though The Big Biscuit is franchising, Wichita’s restaurants will be corporate owned.
