Chain that said it was eyeing Wichita 4 years ago now has plans for 2 restaurants
Back in September 2021, Atlanta-based restaurant chain Chicken Salad Chick announced that it had targeted Wichita as one of the markets it wanted to enter within the next four years.
Turns out it will be more like four years and three months.
One of the chain’s largest franchisees — Meauxmentum Strategies and Investments LLC out of Colleyville, Texas — is hoping to have the Wichita area’s first Chicken Salad Chick restaurant open by mid-December at 10240 W. 29th St. North. It’s taking over the end cap of a strip center that sits just in front of the Sam’s Club at 29th and Maize. (The spot was previously home to Marketplace Dentistry.)
After that, it will move on to Derby. A company spokeswoman said that the franchisee plans to have a restaurant open at 2600 N. Rock Road in Derby — where an AT&T store previously operated — by late February.
Chicken Salad Chick specializes in Southern-style chicken salad that’s made from scratch and comes in more than a dozen flavors, including traditional, savory, fruity and nutty, and spicy. Customer favorites include the Classic Carol; the Fancy Nancy made with apples, grapes and pecans; and the Buffalo Barclay, which features a hot sauce kick.
Customers can get their chicken salad served by the scoop or in a sandwich, and the menu also offers sides like soup, broccoli salad, grape salad and mac and cheese. Desserts include white chocolate cake, red velvet cake, chocolate marshmallow crispy bars and buttercream frosted cookies. (See the full menu below.)
Chicken Salad Chick is a fast-casual restaurant where people order at the counter then take a seat and wait for their food. The restaurant also offers delivery, pickup and catering.
The chain, which was founded in Auburn, Alabama, in 2008, now has more than 290 restaurants in 21 states. Wichita’s franchisee, Meauxmentum Strategies and Investments, owns 16 Chicken Salad Chick restaurants across Indiana, Oklahoma and Texas. Its restaurant collection also includes more than 100 Taco Bell and Wingstop restaurants nationwide.
Wichitans who like to camp out for free food giveaways should start planning their layers for Wichita’s sure-to-be-chilly December opening: When Chicken Salad Chick opens a new store, the first 100 people through the door win free chicken salad for a year.
The Wichita restaurant’s Facebook page will launch in October and will include more grand opening details.
