The dirty soda competition on Wichita’s west side gets a little dirtier
The dirty soda competition on the west side of Wichita will get a little dirtier.
Derek Sorrells, who was the first to bring the dirty soda trend to Wichita when he opened his first Just A Sip at 13th and Tyler a year ago, opened another one Wednesday at 37th and Ridge. (Sorrells calls the drinks, which combine fountain sodas with sweet syrups, fresh fruit and cream, “sassy soda.”)
The new shop, which sits in a new strip center just across from the new west-side Deano’s, won’t sell just soda. Like its sister store at 21st and Webb, it will be a co-branded Just A Sip/Papa’s Ice Cream & Treats. In addition to sodas, the new shop also will serve 24 flavors of ice cream, 12 flavors of cones and extreme shakes.
Sorrell’s latest venture will operate just 3 miles from where national dirty soda chain Swig, 3080 N. Maize Road, added its first Wichita shop in May.
In addition to his other Just A Sip shop at 13th and Tyler and the other co-branded Just A Sip/Papa’s Ice Cream & Treats shop at 21st and Webb, Sorrells also owns Papa’s Ice Cream & Treats in Clifton Square. That shop opened in 2020 as Papa’s General Store, but Sorrells renamed it earlier this year.
The new 37th and Ridge store’s hours will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sundays.
