The restaurant side of this already hopping Old Town nightclub will open this week
If you’ve been in Old Town on a recent weekend, you might have noticed a crowded, glittery new nightlife venue packed with people at the corner of Second and Washington.
It’s Uno Mas owner Abel Rodriguez’s new nightclub and restaurant, Cabron y Vagos — which he would like people to refer to as CYV’S (pronounced “sivs”) for short.
Rodriguez, who announced plans for his new concept in the former Headz & Tailz space at 301 N. Washington back in August, has been opening the nightclub part of the business for a couple of weekends now, and it’s hard to miss it if you drive by. He’s opened up the front of the building and added a garage door that connects the inside of the business to the front-facing patio. In the evenings, customers can be seen inside dancing to Mexican bands and enjoying cocktails amid flashing lights.
The nightclub has been such a hit that Rodriguez delayed opening the restaurant side of the business. But now he’s ready to open it, too.
Starting on Friday, CYV’S will be open for lunch and dinner. The hours for the restaurant will be 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays. The kitchen closes at 9 p.m. each night, and on Friday and Saturday nights, the business is then transformed into a nightclub that’s open until 2 a.m. Nightclub customers can get food from Rodriguez’s Uno Mas truck set up in the parking lot.
For now, CYV’S is closed on Sundays, but once spring arrives, Rodriguez plans to open for Sunday brunch, he said.
The menu for the restaurant, which you can see below, features many of the types of dishes Rodriguez is already known for at Uno Mas, including tacos, burritos and nachos. But the large menu also includes enchiladas, quesadillas, fajitas, molcajetes and lots of appetizers, including flaming cheese, Mexican street fries and grilled short ribs served in a 400-degree molcajete bowl.
CYV’S also has an extensive drink menu filled with craft cocktails, tequila and mezcal flights, and six flavors of margaritas. Customers also can order pitchers of cocktails like Watermelon Patio Punch, pineapple margaritas and pomegranate mimosas. Beer and seltzers also are available.
Rodriguez also owns the Uno Mas restaurants at 8641 W. 13th St. and at 3242 N. Rock Road. When he decided to get into the bar business, he closed his Uno Mas restaurant at 1735 W. 21st St., and it has since become home to Tiger Rice.
