New restaurant going up near Aloft hotel off K-96 to be run by a familiar local operator

At long last, Great Plains Ventures is getting the restaurant it’s wanted for the District 96 development near the Aloft Hotel at K-96 and Oliver. And its future operator will be someone familiar to Wichita.

All indications point to Schane Gross, owner of The Anchor at 1109 E. Douglas, as operator of the restaurant, whose building is well underway just west of the hotel. Gross’ only response to questions about the restaurant was a more colorful way of saying that she didn’t want anyone to become too excited too quickly over the project.

Marque Peer, the vice president of development for Great Plains Ventures, has been publicly saying since 2019 that he wanted a restaurant anchor for District 96, a collection of businesses on about 100 acres that includes not only the Aloft Hotel but also QuikTrip, Chisholm Lake Apartments and Great Plains Industries.

He’s courted a few operators and appears to have finally found one in Gross. He confirmed that the building underway on the property would be a restaurant and that it would be run by a local operator but said he couldn’t yet share details beyond that.

Back in October 2019, Peer planned a food truck rally at the hotel designed to demonstrate the need for a restaurant in the area, which is also near the Koch Industries headquarters. At the time, he said he’d been pursuing both local and national restaurant operators.

Look for an update as more details become available.
