Wichita shipping container mall gets a new bar, will soon add a tiny coffee shop, too
First, they opened a barber shop. Then, they added a bar. And next, the owners of Fox & Ash barber shop at Revolutsia — the shipping container mall at 2721 E. Central that also has Prost, Fleur De Vin and Ze German Markt — will also add a tiny coffee shop.
The new bar is called Good Company Taps & Spirits, and it’s owned by Andrew Schwartz and Caleb Porter, who in 2018 opened a Wichita location of their McPherson-based Fox & Ash barbershop in a space on the upper level of Revolutsia.
The duo also long dreamed of opening a bar and were about to add one in Revolutsia before the pandemic hit, Porter said. Two years later, they finally got it done. The owners moved Fox & Ash to a larger shipping container next door and used the empty space for Good Company.
The bar, which Porter describes as a tap room with cocktails, opened on Sept. 1. It’s connected to the barbershop and is big enough to seat about 15 people inside. There’s also a decent-sized patio area outside that will seat around 20 people once the patio furniture arrives.
In addition to local beer, craft cocktails made with homemade mixers and a menu of “interesting” spirits not widely available in Wichita, Good Company also has a food menu. It offers LMNO Pizza out of Mount Hope as well as empanadas made locally by Argentina’s Empanadas. It has charcuterie boards.
Porter and Scwhartz aren’t done expanding in Revolutsia, either. Soon, they’ll be taking over another shipping container and will expand Fox & Ash so that it will have space for 10 barber chairs instead of six.
Also, in the next couple of months, they’ll be opening a tiny coffee shop called Pennant Coffee in a 160-square-foot container just east of the bar. From there, they’ll sell coffee made by McPherson based Pennant Coffee Roasters and will have a full menu of espresso drinks plus pastries by Pee Wee + Sweets Bakehouse, the new bakery across the street from Revolutsia.
Though the tiny Pennant Coffee will have room for only a couple of seats inside, patrons will be able to utilize Good Company’s indoor and outdoor seating.
The hours for Good Company are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays and noon to 5 p.m. Sundays.
