Old Knolla’s space at 13th & West getting new tenant — and places to sit down — next week
The restaurant space at 3817 W. 13th St. that was the home of Knolla’s Pizza from 1995 until it closed in November will have a new tenant starting next week.
David Thompson, who almost two weeks ago opened his first Tutors Pizza restaurant in the old Clutch House space at 524 S. Seneca, says he will open his 13th Street location in the space on Monday, Sept. 5. It will be called Tutors Pizza Express.
The new restaurant will be different from the first Tutors, which boasts arcade games, a big bar and lots of seating. This one is much smaller and will have more of a focus on delivery and carryout orders.
But the new Tutors also will be different from the Knolla’s that operated in the strip center for years with just a small walk-up counter. Thompson acquired the space directly to the west and has added a small dining room that has kid-friendly art on the walls, a big soda cooler and tables and chairs that can seat about 40 people.
The new Tutors’ menu will include Detroit-style pizzas along with more traditional pies in three sizes as well as oven-baked pastas and subs. It will also have a starter menu that includes bone-in or boneless wings, salads, garlic rolls, cheese bread and more.
Its hours will be 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. The number for carryout and delivery orders will be 316-871-2243 and people also will be able to order online at tutorspizzaexpress.com
Thompson, who previously owned Brooklyn Boyz Pizzeria restaurants in Salina, Manhattan and Topeka, has more Tutors restaurants planned for the area. Next up, he’ll open a Tutors in Hutchinson and then plans one at 946 S. Rock Road, which he says should be open this fall. He’s also eyeing locations in Goddard.
