He put on a “soft opening” for friends and family over the weekend, and sometime in the next couple of days, Arnulfo Garcia will open his new Old Town Square restaurant — Bocatto: Eatery and Pasta — to the public.

Now Garcia, who owns the new restaurant with Jimmy Bolanos, is ready to share the menu. He says he might open as early as Tuesday if he can quickly fix some glitches with his point of sales system. Otherwise, it will be Wednesday.

Garcia, who made his career working in restaurant kitchens across the country — including at Chester’s Chophouse in Wichita — has filled the menu with steaks, seafood dishes and pasta dishes. Among the dinner selections are filet, rib eye and New York strip steaks served with a Brazilian-style sauce plus veggies and mashed potatoes; scampi shrimp tempura served with spaghetti; and pasta dishes like chicken Alfredo, spaghetti and meatballs, and a Chicken al Bellagio that features a chicken cutlet with prosciutto, pesto oil and Parmesan cheese over spaghetti. The menu also lists panini sandwiches and chicken dishes like chicken Marsala, lemon chicken piccata and chicken Parmesan.

Appetizer choices include fried calamari and fried ravioli, and the restaurant also offers a Caesar and classic Italian house salad. There’s also a kid’s menu as well as a separate lunch menu. You can check the dinner menu out below.

Garcia said that during the soft opening, people were extra enthusiastic about the swordfish, which is served with mixed peppers, asparagus and mango cream.

The restaurant, which will also have a full bar once its liquor license is approved, has taken over the Old Town Square space vacated in January 2020 by Mimi’s Old Town Mexican Restaurant.

Bocatto, Garcia said, is an Italian expression used when something is delicious.

Once open, Bocatto’s hours will be 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.
