Wichita Wendy’s restaurant torn down last year is ready to reopen with a Frosty giveaway
Those who frequent Rock Road watched last year as a longtime Wendy’s restaurant was leveled — only to learn that the franchisees planned to rebuild it new.
Now, the new restaurant is ready to open.
On Saturday, the Wendy’s at 160 S. Rock Road will officially open to the public, and to celebrate, the first 200 customers through the door will get free small Frosty treats. The restaurant’s hours will be 6:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays and 6:30 a.m. to midnight Fridays and Saturdays.
The new restaurant features a modern design both inside and out plus free Wi-Fi.
The Rock Road Wendy’s first opened in 1975, back when the chain was brand new.
Cotti Foods — which bought longtime Wichita Wendy’s franchisee Larry Fleming’s 38 Wendy’s restaurants in Kansas, Tulsa and Amarillo, Texas, in 2017 — has been systematically identifying Wendy’s restaurants across Wichita for the rebuild treatment, all part of its plan to “elevate the restaurant experience,” according to a news release.
Rock Road went first, then in March, the old Wendy’s at 3601 E. Harry met the wrecking ball. A spokeswoman for Cotti Foods, said it should be rebuilt by late July.
Also in July, Cotti Foods plans to demolish the Wendy’s at 601 N. West Street and rebuild it new. It should be ready to reopen by December.
