Wichita lost a few more restaurants as 2021 ended, 2022 began

My annual story looking back at restaurants that Wichita lost over the year came out at the end of December, and then I took a week off work to recharge.

But I came back to news of even more closures that slipped in while I was gone. Here’s the sad addendum:

Angela’s Cafe & Cantina, 2119 W. 21st St.: The restaurant run by Roman Romero at 21st and Amidon closed on Dec. 21, but in a Facebook post, he said that he hoped to find a new location and reopen. Angela’s has operated out of the space for years, though it was closed for about a year and a half, reopening the last time in June 2014. Incidentally, another closed Angela’s also reopened in its same spot late last year. The Angela’s Cafe at 300 S. Greenwich, which closed in 2016, reopened in October.

Da Chicken Shak & More, 343 S. Greenwich: Just a few weeks after closing his Da Chicken Shak & More restaurant at 1112 W. 31st St. South, Gabe Granger decided he also had to close the one on South Greenwich that opened in November 2020. Its last day was Dec. 31. Granger, who took over running the restaurants after losing his father, Tim, in November 2020 and his grandfather, Chris, in January 2021, said he just couldn’t keep the two restaurants staffed and was getting overwhelmed. The Original Da Chicken Shak & More is still open at 2428 W. 13th St.

Two Brothers BBQ and Burger Grill, 3134 E. Douglas: Jan. 4 was the last day in business for this restaurant, which had operated out of a renovated service station at the corner of Douglas and Hillside since the summer of 2010. In a Facebook post announcing the closing, the family urged people to visit the Two Brothers restaurants at 300 S. Greenwich and 6730 W. Central.

Enigma Club & Lounge, 351 N. Mosley: Though it wasn’t a restaurant, it’s worth noting that this Old Town club — which originally opened in 2019 — closed on Dec. 31. Owner Ali Kibar said that his landlord has someone else who wants to take over the space and that he was OK with closing. The club was the site of a deadly shooting in September.
