They had to delay opening day, but now this west Wichita restaurant is ready to open

The new Barn’rds roast beef restaurant at 37th and Maize in Wichita is ready to open — for sure this time.

Last week, owner Troy Hertel announced that he’d have to push back his announced and much-anticipated opening day, which had long been scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 15. But with only a few days left to go before the doors opened, he said, he was encountering glitches he wouldn’t be able to resolve in time.

But, as it turns out, he only needed a little extra time. The restaurant is now ready to open and will start welcoming customers on Monday.

“Things have finally come together,” he said.

The new restaurant is in new construction at 3869 N. Maize Road and features more space than the original at 21st and Woodlawn. It has a drive-through and a big outdoor patio for dining.

The Hertel family, who founded Barn’rds 37 years ago, closed their original restaurant at 21st and Woodlawn on Sept. 4, having decided they were up for running only one location. The Woodlawn staff all made the move, Hertel said, and the restaurant is keeping the original menu but adding chicken strips for the kids.

The hours will be 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
