A new Wichita restaurant was set to open on Tuesday, but ‘glitches’ are forcing a delay

If you had opening day for the new Barn’rds restaurant at 37th and Maize Road circled on your calendar, there’s something you need to know.

It’s being delayed.

Troy Hertel, who runs the Wichita roast beef restaurant his family founded, said he realized on Friday that the Tuesday opening he’d announced and been working toward just wasn’t going to happen.

“Weather and multiple glitches” are to blame.

“I have learned so much through this, and the lessons never seem to stop,” he said.

He’s not sure exactly what day the restaurant will open but promises to keep me posted.

“We have one chance to get this right,” he said.

Earlier this week, I shared a first look at the new restaurant, which is at 3869 N. Maize Road. The Hertel family closed their restaurant at 21st and Woodlawn on Sept. 4 and moved the business across town to a new space with more room, a big patio and a modern look.

I’ll let you know when the Hertels are ready to open.
