Small-town restaurant, a Wichita favorite, the latest to close after COVID-19 exposure
A small-town Kansas restaurant that’s a favorite with Wichitans is the latest to close voluntarily after an employee tested positive for COVID-19.
On Friday afternoon, The Barn — a restaurant in Burrton famous for its chicken fried steaks — announced that it was temporarily closing to clean and disinfect.
Burrton is about 42 miles northwest of Wichita. The restaurant is at 307 W. Dean.
The restaurant’s Facebook post said that on Wednesday, a kitchen employee started feeling unwell while at home and was tested that day.
“As they had not worked since Monday and was not scheduled to work until today we just found out and have learned in the last hour the test came back positive,” the post read.
The post said the restaurant would keep customers informed of an estimated return date.
The Barn, which opened in 2015, became known for selling 10,000 chicken fried steaks in its first 10 months of business despite operating in a town of only about 900 people.
