Wichita gets two new restaurants
Two new restaurants have opened in Wichita.
One is Crazy Horse Supper Club, 2539 W. Pawnee, which is a revival of a onetime Wichita favorite hangout by the founder’s grandson.
Eric Peabody, whose grandfather Sam Peabody and his wife, Ramona, originally opened Crazy Horse Supper Club in 1967, has been working on the remodel for a year and a half, and after a few delays, he’s finally opened the doors Monday, he said.
Inside, he’s redone the original space, which now has a new bar and new finishes and smells nice and new rather than old and greasy, like it did when he got it, he said.
Peabody plans to bring back many of the unusual favorites the supper club was once know for, including alligator tail, frog legs and chicken gizzard, but for the first two or three weeks he’ll be offering what he calls a “soft opening” menu.
It includes appetizers like fried mushrooms, bull fries and bacon fried rice and entrees like burgers, pretzel chicken strips, fried chicken, and a Parmesan crusted double grilled cheese sandwich.
The hours will be 11 a.m. to 1:30 a.m. daily.
Also opening on Monday was BD’s Mongolian Grill, a new Mongolian barbecue restaurant taking over the space vacated by Genghis Grill in August 2018. It’s at 111 S. Rock Road, right at the corner of Douglas and Rock.
Like its predecessor, BD’s is the type of place where people load their bowls with raw ingredients then watch as chefs grill their concoctions. Franchisee Hamendra Bhakta says he will be taking some coronavirus precautions to start off with, including starting without the soup and salad bar.
Hours will be 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.
